International Etruscan Sigla Project

What is that?

The international Etruscan Sigla Project (IESP) was formed by the professors Giovanna Bagnasco Gianni (Università degli Studi di Milano) and Nancy T. de Grummond (Florida State University) to study a vast body of alternate traditions of writing or making marks involving non-verbal and non-literary messages. This is the phenomenon of the Etruscan Siglum (pl. sigla), i.e. a type of symbol or character employed to communicate by making marks that are not developed texts of language with immediately recognizable words. The IESP is meant to meet the need of the scientific community, as a common work in progress, and help to develop shared guidelines.
