User Roles & Permissions
Understand your access level

Underline

Access to IESP is role-based and, for data entry and supervision, site-specific. Each role determines the level at which a user can consult, contribute to, and validate the documentation. Users without an assigned archaeological site operate with Guest access.

How Roles Work

Your role determines what you can see and do. If you don't have any sites assigned, you will have GUEST access with basic functionality.

GUEST
Guests can consult and search records made available to external users, including entries that are visible but awaiting validation. They can save searches and request Recorder access.

Requirements

No assigned sites.

What you can do

  • View personal profile
  • Request access to manage sites

Limitations

  • Cannot manage any sites
RECORDER
Recorders contribute data for one or more assigned archaeological sites. They can create supports and elements for those sites and manage their own entries, while continuing to consult the wider searchable database. Their editing rights remain connected with their own records and assigned sites.

Requirements

Assigned to one or more specific sites.

What you can do

  • All GUEST permissions
  • Record and enter data for assigned sites

Limitations

  • Access limited to assigned sites only
  • Cannot change system configurations
  • Cannot manage other users
  • Cannot access data from unassigned sites
SUPERVISOR
Supervisors oversee the documentation of one or more assigned sites. They can create and manage records, review entries submitted by Recorders working on the same sites, and validate the resulting documentation. Their supervisory functions remain connected with the sites assigned to them.

Requirements

Assigned to one or more sites with supervisory privileges.

What you can do

  • All RECORDER permissions
  • Full management of assigned sites
  • Manage RECORDER users for assigned sites
  • Approve and validate submitted data

Limitations

  • Control limited to assigned sites only
  • Cannot manage global system administration
  • Cannot access unassigned sites
